Bananas in Cafe?

Today before work, I forgot to eat breakfast. I had a banana with me, so I took it and I planned to eat it on the street. I was running kind of late, so I didn't eat the banana. After working, I then got some free time since my customer went home early. So I'm trying to eat my banana then. Suddenly, the cafe manager said that I can't eat this banana in public. This is interesting for me, I feel like there is something deeper going on rather than just the general rule of no eating outside food in the cafe. What do you think it is?
